Journal: Ephemerides Theologicae Lovanienses Volume: 71 Issue: 1 Date: April 1995 Pages: 139-150 DOI: 10.2143/ETL.71.1.504883 Abstract : My contribution to Professor Frans Neirynck’s well-deserved Festschrift, The Four Gospels 1992, argued that a number of Lucan agreements with Matthew against Mark contain non- and anti-Lucan features which exemplify characteristically Matthean interests and diction and therefore point to subsidiary influence of Matthew on Luke, this influence supplementing the main influences on Luke of Mark and Q. It was known to me that Neirynck sees no need to posit the subsidiary influence for an explanation of the agreements of Matthew and Luke against Mark; but I regarded, and still regard, my attempt to explain those agreements by such influence as lending support to Neirynck’s larger enterprise of defending the Mark-Q hypothesis. Now, in an essay contributed to a Festschrift for Michael D. Goulder, Neirynck has argued against the essay that I contributed to his own Festschrift. I thank him for paying close attention to my essay. His arguments, prodigiously well-informed as is all his work, deserve a rejoinder. |
