Document Details : Title: Footprints of Oral Transmission in the Canonical Passion Narratives Author(s): STILLMAN, M.K. Journal: Ephemerides Theologicae Lovanienses Volume: 73 Issue: 4 Date: Dec. 1997 Pages: 393-400 DOI: 10.2143/ETL.73.4.504833 Abstract : Previous research has suggested that oral transmission may have marked the text of the Gospel of Peter (GP). In the GP we sometimes find one word where parallel canonical texts use a word which is synonymous and sounds very similar but is based on a different Greek root (e.g., σταυρίσκω and σταυρόω). It would seem that if only random forces were at work such sound-similar words should occur relatively infrequently. Yet they occur at least three times in the relatively short (60 verses) extant GP. |
