Document Details : Title: The Use of καιρός and χρόνος in the Septuagint Author(s): EYNIKEL, E. , HAUSPIE, K. Journal: Ephemerides Theologicae Lovanienses Volume: 73 Issue: 4 Date: Dec. 1997 Pages: 369-385 DOI: 10.2143/ETL.73.4.504831 Abstract : The most significant study to date, treating the distinctions between καιρός and χρόνος in the Greek Bible is that of James Barr, Biblical Words for Time. Barr opens the chapter on καιρός and χρόνος with a presentation of the theory of J. Marsh and J.A.T. Robinson who maintained that in the NT a precise distinction in meaning between καιρός and χρόνος can be made in terms of the contrast between “realistic time” vs “chronological time”. To quote Marsh: “The contrast between ‘chronological' and ‘realistic' is exhibited in the NT distinction between χρόνος (measured time, duration) and καιρός (time of opportunity and fulfilment)”. |
