Neither of these questions needs to be fully addressed, but each of them needs to be addressed insofar as they bear upon the function of the paraenesis in 1 Thess 4,1-12 and 5,12-22. The first preliminary question concerns the unity and integrity of 1 Thessalonians. The second concerns the genre – the epistolary genre and the rhetorical genre! – of 1 Thessalonians. |
