Document Details : Title: 'A Land Flowing with Milk and Honey' Subtitle: Indicative of a Deuteronomistic Redaction? Author(s): AUSLOOS, H. Journal: Ephemerides Theologicae Lovanienses Volume: 75 Issue: 4 Date: Dec. 1999 Pages: 297-314 DOI: 10.2143/ETL.75.4.504762 Abstract : The taking possession of the Promised Land is one of the major themes within the Pentateuch. With regard to the indication of the land’s importance and its depiction as attractive and fertile, several images are used. In some texts, the extraordinary borders are accentuated. In others, such as the book of Deuteronomy, the land is considered to be a gift from God. One of the most characteristic expressions for denoting the Promised Land in the entire Old Testament, however, is the expression 'a land flowing with milk and honey'. |
