Document Details : Title: The Near Eastern Connections of Manichaeans Confessionary Practice Author(s): BEDUHN, J.D. Journal: ARAM Periodical Volume: 16 Date: 2004 Pages: 161-177 DOI: 10.2143/ARAM.16.0.504678 Abstract : Among the ritual practices of the Manichaeans, confession seems to have occupied an important place. While the general practice of confession is alluded to in all parts of the Manichaean world, it is best attested in the formal confession texts for the Elect and Auditors nown to us in Sogdian and Turkic versions discovered in Turfan, in what today is the Northwestern region of the People's Republic of China. The present study seeks to build upon the inispensible and masterful accomplishments of Jes Asmussen, and to further his exploration of the background and antecedents of the manichaean formal confession. |
