Journal: ARAM Periodical Volume: 16 Date: 2004 Pages: 13-23 DOI: 10.2143/ARAM.16.0.504669 Abstract : The Book of John was thought to be a supplement to the Ginza. The book, also known as Drashia d-Malkia (The teachings of the king) or the Book of Adam, was probably renamed in order to impress Muslims. Most scholars attribute the book to Post-Islamic times, but much of the material in this congomerate is old and supported by Ginza texts, especially the moral teachings and the mythologies. In all likelihood, only some segments belong to the 7th century or later. This article focuses on the Mandaean's potential links with early Christianity. The author discusses the Mandaean traditions on Miriai (known as Mary, Jesus' mother, in Christian tradition) and John the Baptist in the context of The Book of John. |
