Document Details : Title: Change and Continuity in Urban Settlement Patterns in Palaestina Tertia Subtitle: The Case of Christian Areopolis (Rabba, Jordan) Author(s): CALZINI GYSENS, Jacqueline Journal: ARAM Periodical Volume: 15 Date: 2003 Pages: 1-10 DOI: 10.2143/ARAM.15.0.504522 Abstract : The article summurizes the first results of current research on the architecture of ancient Rabba in southern Jordan, carried out by an expedition from the Istituto italiano per l'Africa e l'Oriente (the Italian Institute for Africa and the Orient) from Rome, under the auspices of the Department of Antiquities of Jordan. A preliminary assessment of the structures still visible on ground level in the archaeological area west to the modern 'Ammân-Karak road has produced a first groundplan, and some architectural features marked on it are briefly commented upon. They were part of the last occupational phase at ancient Rabba (late Byzantine or early Ummayad period). |
