Document Details : Title: Cemeteries in Beirut Author(s): STUART, Barbara Journal: ARAM Periodical Volume: 13 Date: 2001-2002 Pages: 87-112 DOI: 10.2143/ARAM.13.0.504494 Abstract : During the course of five years of excavation in the Beirut Central District, a number of burials were exposed dating from the Bronze Age to the Ottoman Period. Few of these burials were in isolated places, most were part of cemeteries located on the fringes of the contemporary habitation areas. Various types of burial container were used for the disposal of the dead, ranging from simple pits to rock-cut tombs with several rooms. The article presents a survey of the burials found in the Beirut Central District during recent excavations. |
