Document Details : Title: The Mirror Image Subtitle: How Hindus Adapt to the Creole Christian World of the Caribbean Author(s): BAKKER, Freek L. Journal: Studies in Interreligious Dialogue Volume: 13 Issue: 2 Date: 2003 Pages: 175-186 DOI: 10.2143/SID.13.2.504445 Abstract : The need for the inculturation of the Christian faith in the whole of a country's culture has more than once been addressed. What is often forgotten is that there is also a mirror image of this process. There are countries where adherents of non-Christian religions felt compelled to adapt to the world of Christianity. The article gives an example of this phenomenon in Suriname in the West Indies, where Hindu immigrants adapted to the Creole Christian world of the Carribean. However, one could cite several other examples, since the occurrence of this phenomenon is not limited to the Carribean. |
