The Avatamsaka sutra is commonly regarded as teaching the essence of the bodhisattva path. More than simply another Mahayana sutra, the Avatamsaka sutra has been regarded as the sutra setting forth the doctrine of One Vehicle which teaches that the bodhisattva path is not simply the way toward enlightenment but is itself none other than the way of the Buddha. In other words, once one gives rise to a mind aspiring to achieve Buddhahood, everything one does constitutes the practice of a bodhisattva, and this practice itself becomes a manifestation of the Buddha. |
