Document Details : Title: De rijmen van Veldekes eerste lied Author(s): GOOSSENS, Jan Journal: Spiegel der Letteren Volume: 45 Issue: 2 Date: 2003 Pages: 107-119 DOI: 10.2143/SDL.45.2.504197 Abstract : Heinrich von Veldeke’s first lay (56, 1) has come down to us in the Weingarten (B) and in the large Heidelberg manuscript (C). In this article the rhymes of this lay in its two traditions are compared. The analysis shows that the poem originally contained numerous north-west (‘Dutch’) characteristics, which, when transposed in a south-west (Alemannic) idiom, caused difficulties. This resulted in a number of impure rhymes in B. On the other hand, C has pure rhymes throughout. This can be due to purposive interventions of the copyist, but in certain cases it may reflect a tradition going back to the Limburgian original. |
