Document Details : Title: De gidsen van Couperus. Subtitle: Bronnen en brongebruik in zin Italiaanse reisschetsen Author(s): KEMPERINK, Mary Journal: Spiegel der Letteren Volume: 45 Issue: 1 Date: 2003 Pages: 21-47 DOI: 10.2143/SDL.45.1.503913 Abstract : The journalistic sketches Louis Couperus wrote during his travels through Italy are presented by the author – with some emphasis even – as authentic, first-hand impressions. In these writings, however, Couperus frequently made use of the well-known travel books of his time. Although sometimes he follows these texts literally, he fails to mention his sources. The way in which Couperus weaves the guide books into his own texts shows a clear relation with his own artistic ideas and with the important role history plays in this poetical concept. |
