Journal: Journal of Coptic Studies Volume: 3 Date: 2001 Pages: 45-61 DOI: 10.2143/JCS.3.0.503606 Abstract : The article is a report on the 1991 excavations conducted by the German Institute of Archaeology in the South Church at Hermopolis-Ashmunāyn. This church is located next to and partly built over the temple of Ramesses II. The goal of the excavation was to clarify the plan of the church and to gain as much information as possible in order to establish, according to the surviving remains, an optimal understanding of the architecture. The results of this research are presented, together with a chapter on the pottery found during the excavations. |
