Document Details : Title: Liederen en refreinen van Frans Fraet? Author(s): HOFMAN, E. Journal: Spiegel der Letteren Volume: 42 Issue: 3-4 Date: 2000 Pages: 227-258 DOI: 10.2143/SDL.42.3.407 Abstract : Lately we didn't know what poems were possibly written by the Antwerp evangelically minded poet Frans Fraet (1505?-1558). From the study of some old religious booklets of poetry appeared, that Fraet not only was the editor, but also the poet of these scriptural hymns. Even some refrains from an old collection and from the codex Adriaen Wils can be attributed to him. Especially the discovery that Fraet used in his legal editions as his device Alst God belieft (God willing) in his unapprobated editions however the pseudonym Gheeft God die eere (Honor to God), makes it acceptable to take the Antwerp rhetorician for the poet of seven hymns and twelve refrains. |
