Document Details : Title: Ein Chanmeti-fragment der georgischen Übersetzung von Esra I Author(s): KHARANAULI, Anna Journal: Le Muséon Volume: 116 Issue: 1-2 Date: 2003 Pages: 181-216 DOI: 10.2143/MUS.116.1.347 Abstract : The fragment of Ezdra I, preserved in the Vienna National Library, is the most prominent and significant one among the Khanmeti fragments of the Georgian Bible. The text is written on the lower layer of a VIIth cent. palimpsest (Georg. 2). The translation was made from a Greek manuscript of the Lucianic recension. The importance of that Georgian translation for the study of the primary form of the original and the history of the text is stressed, taking into consideration that Lucian's recension is represented in two Greek manuscripts which are five centuries younger than the Georgian fragment. Some differences in the readings of the Georgian text are mainly related to Lucian's original which is much older than the other sources known to us. Besides, in some cases, we may consider that it can be the primary variant of Lucian's recension. In some cases, the Khanmeti fragment allows to restore the form of the Greek manuscript which has served as the basis of the Georgian translation. |
