Brock identified a putative “unrecorded” Syriac lexeme gemma meaning ‘bridle' or ‘bit'. The history of John of NeÌl recounts miracles performed through John of NeÌl; it was not written by John of NeÌl. His history has been preserved in manuscript Mingana syr. 502, fols. 204b215b, which is “an Eastern Syrian manuscript copied at the monastery of Mar Ahha by the priest Gabriel in the autumn of 1835”. John of NeÌl lived in the early 7th century. |
