Document Details : Title: The Ataruz Altar Inscriptions Revisited Author(s): LANGLOIS, Michael , LEMAIRE, André Journal: Semitica Volume: 67 Date: 2025 Pages: 117-133 DOI: 10.2143/SE.67.0.3295725 Abstract : Two Moabite inscriptions are engraved on a cylindrical stone altar discovered in an Iron Age sanctuary at Khirbet Ataruz (ancient Atarot) in Jordan. Seven years after the editio princeps, we propose a new decipherment and interpretation. These graffiti shed light on economy and scribal training in the Kingdom of Moab around 700 BCE. Deux inscriptions moabites sont gravées sur un autel cylindrique en pierre découvert dans un sanctuaire de l’Âge du Fer à Khirbet Ataruz (l’ancienne Atarot), en Jordanie. Sept ans après l’editio princeps, nous en reprenons à frais nouveaux le déchiffrement et l’interprétation. Ces graffiti jettent une lumière nouvelle sur le système économique et la formation des scribes au Royaume de Moab vers 700 avant Jésus-Christ. |
