Document Details : Title: Herveus Natalis' Reprobationes excusationum Durandi Author(s): BONINI, Francesca Journal: Recherches de Théologie et Philosophie Médiévales Volume: 92 Issue: 2 Date: 2025 Pages: 315-384 DOI: 10.2143/RTPM.92.2.3295162 Abstract : This article examines the Reprobationes excusationum Durandi by Herveus Natalis. Likely produced in the winter of 1314, the text is a polemical report on Durand of St. Pourçain’s Excusationes. As is well known among scholars, the first two redactions of Durand’s commentary on the Sentences underwent a first censure in the summer of 1314, when 93 propositions were condemned. In the aftermath of this censure, likely in the autumn of 1314, Durand defended himself with his Excusationes, which have not survived. Hence, Herveus’ Reprobationes are the main witness of Durand’s lost text. The article analyzes the structure and the sources of Herveus’ work and offers a complete edition. |
