This essay argues that ὡς bears a subjective, affirmatory force — 'as indeed' — functioning as a preambular hinge that recalls a prior benefaction: God has already granted all things for life and εὐσέβεια. Read thus, vv. 3-4 provide the charter that grounds the imperatives of vv. 5-7; ἐπίγνωσις denotes participatory recognition rather than esoteric capital; and vv. 8-11 construe perseverance as gratitude. The proposed syntax explains the passage’s architecture and the letter’s moral impetus while recommending that translations retain ὡς for linguistic and theological reasons. |
