Document Details : Title: Nicole et Jean-Michel Thierry et Turquie Orientale Subtitle: Des voyageurs-témoins Author(s): BALADIAN, Ani T. Journal: Revue des Études Arméniennes Volume: 43 Date: 2025 Pages: 1-16 DOI: 10.2143/REA.43.0.3295016 Abstract : Throughout the second half of the 20th century, Nicole and Jean-Michel Thierry travelled often through Anatolia and the southern Caucasus (1952-1998) in search of disappeared historical monuments or partially destroyed structures. Both of them being by profession medical doctors, nevertheless, they have been fervent devotees of architecture, moved by the desire to discover and to describe realities in the region, creating a vast visual archive of structures on the verge of disappearance, in order to preserve their vestiges for posterity. Their tens of thousands of photographs, often captured clandestinely, present us with a treasure chest of images for future generations and art historians. Apart from this valuable documentation, the article also discusses the role of photography in archeological research in general. |
