Document Details : Title: The Spiritual and Intellectual Formation of Seminarians of the Lwów Archdiocese at the Pontifical Armenian College in Rome from 1928 to 1941 Author(s): KRZYŻOWSKI, Tomasz Journal: Orientalia Christiana Periodica Volume: 91 Issue: 1 Date: 2025 Pages: 221-242 DOI: 10.2143/OCP.91.1.3294865 Abstract : In 1928, during deliberations at the Armenian Episcopalian Conference in Rome, Józef Teodorowicz, an Armenian archbishop from Lwów, secured an agreement for seminarians from his own archdiocese to be educated at the Pontifical Armenian College in Rome. In 1928-1941, eight young men began their spiritual and intellectual formation. Three of them, Kazimierz Romaszkan, Kazimierz Roszko and Grzegorz Petrowicz, successfully completed their formation and were ordained as priests, while the others, at different stages and for different reasons, broke off their studies and returned to Poland. The rule of the college envisaged religious formation, the shaping of mature personalities, study of the liturgy and the acquisition of the language skills necessary for future pastoral work. Studying at the Pontifical Gregorian University made it possible to gain a solid grounding in the theological and philosophical disciplines, as well as in related fields. Formation and university studies, which lasted for at least seven years, gave Polish seminarians the opportunity to make contact with Armenian clergy from many countries and to exchange experiences on the activities of the Armenian Catholic Church in various parts of the world. |
