Abstract :
This contribution examines an unstudied Neo-Latin allocutio gratulatoria delivered at the University of Leuven in 1762 on the occasion of several theologians obtaining the licentiate degree. The oration is remarkable for its deliberate use of incorrect Latin – a unique stylistic register distinct from the usual macaronic Latin. The text reveals a playful distortion of Latin grammar. Rather than satire, the speech appears to aim at humorous celebration within an academic ritual. This contribution explores its linguistic strategy and contextual function within eighteenth-century academic culture in Leuven.
