The text under scrutiny is of prime importance for our understanding of the land tenure and inheritance practices in the Eblaite kingdom, particularly in view of remarkable (and previously unnoticed) parallels from later Mesopotamian and Syrian text corpora. In addition to a substantial revision of the general meaning of the document, a high number of so far unrecognized lexical and grammatical features of the Eblaite (early Syrian East Semitic) language are elicited and discussed. |
