Document Details : Title: Coptic Culture Subtitle: Ancient and Current Issues Author(s): BALASTRE, Marien-Apollos Journal: Journal of Coptic Studies Volume: 27 Date: 2025 Pages: 263-280 DOI: 10.2143/JCS.27.0.3294764 Abstract : Coptic Culture and Community. Daily lives, Changing Times is a new collective work about various aspects — in history and space — of the Coptic culture and community, from the late Antiquity off, up to the present diaspora. It proposes a nice travel in the Coptic World through patristic, archaeological, sociological, historical and artistic dimensions. In this rich universe yet, one can be surprised by the absence of the Coptic Bible, the Coptic liturgy, and of a study of the accurate standards of the Coptic Church, which determined so much customs of the Coptic culture through its history. Moreover, some authors adopt bias that might be discussed and reassessed. This work is indeed representative of what the Coptic community is proud to put forward at present, but also of the symptoms affecting this culture. |
