Eine besondere Rolle spielen dabei die Vereinigten Staaten von Amerika. Dort konnte sich die Kirche aufgrund der verfassungsmäßig garantierten Religionsfreiheit ungehindert entwickeln, ohne ihre eigene Struktur demokratisieren zu müssen. Allerdings blieb das amerikanische politische System nicht ganz ohne Folgen für den Katholizismus. Dies soll in diesem Artikel aufgezeigt werden, um weitere Forschungen anzuregen. Although the Catholic Church has little in common with democracy in structural terms, over the course of time it has been able to learn from this form of government, which is characterized by participation and the separation of powers. The United States of America plays a special role in this. The church there was able to develop unhindered due to the constitutionally guaranteed freedom of religion without having to democratize its own structure. However, the American political system did not remain entirely without consequences for Catholicism. This article aims to show this in order to stimulate further research. Bien que l’Église catholique n’ait pas grand-chose en commun avec la démocratie au plan structurel, elle a pu, au fil du temps, tirer des enseignements de cette forme de gouvernement, qui se caractérise par la participation du peuple et la séparation des pouvoirs. Les États-Unis d’Amérique jouent à cet égard un rôle particulier. Grâce à la liberté de religion garantie par la Constitution, l’Église a pu s’y développer sans entrave et sans avoir à démocratiser sa propre structure. Cependant, le système politique américain n’est pas resté sans conséquences pour le catholicisme. C’est ce que cet article se propose de montrer, afin de stimuler la recherche. |
