Document Details : Title: Contested Wisdom and Transcendent Law in the Book of Baruch Author(s): WILSON, Walter T. Journal: Biblica Volume: 106 Issue: 2 Date: 2025 Pages: 208-227 DOI: 10.2143/BIB.106.2.3294731 Abstract : Scholarship on the wisdom poem in Bar 3,9–4,4 has concentrated largely on how its author appropriates material from Deuteronomy 4, 30, Job 28, and Sirach 24. This study shows how the poem also interacts with prophetic texts that employ sapiential idioms in their indictments of foreign entities. In Baruch’s poem, these categories furnish both the terms on which Israel competes with other nations and the basis for claims regarding the exceptional nature of the law, which is correlated with wisdom. |
