Abstract :
This article analyses the chorus in the Neo-Latin school play Agamemnon suimet victor written by Joseph Resch in 1750. While the content of these chorus sections differs greatly from the play’s main story line, past research has shown that these two parts are in fact 'macroscopically' connected by the play’s didactical and pedagogical intentions. In the present article, it is argued that there are further connections that can be established on a 'microscopic' level. Specifically, it is shown that in many cases both the text of the play’s main story line and that of the chorus sections feature similar or identical striking imagery and strong motives. These are deliberately employed by Resch, often just before or after transitioning between plot lines in order to link them. It is shown that, additionally, Resch applies certain literary devices to strengthen these links. All arguments are supported by textual examples.
