Abstract :
On the occasion of the Battle of Lepanto (1571), a collection of Latin compositions was published in Venice under the title In foedus et victoriam contra Turcas iuxta sinum Corinthiacum Nonis Octobribus 1571 partam poemata varia (1572). This volume, which had great fame and diffusion in Europe, contains the ode Ad pueros puellasque Salernitanas, composed by Giano Pelusio (1520-1600), a little-known humanist and versatile poet born in Calabria. In this article a modern edition of this composition, Spanish translation and study are given. It will be demonstrated that the poem combines classical models and contemporary influences, and that its author follows the usual compositional practices of the moment by using themes, motifs and structures from ancient literature for the expression of modern religious and political concepts.
