Document Details : Title: A Failed Work? Subtitle: Gregor of Sambor's Biblias and his Biblical Poems (hymni) from the Bibliados feria seu tabula I (1566) Author(s): RYCZKOWSKI, Patryk M. Journal: Humanistica Lovaniensia Volume: 73 Date: 2024 Pages: 371-413 DOI: 10.2143/HLO.73.0.3294202 Abstract : Although the Biblias by Gregor of Sambor was believed to be lost, a unique – recently digitised – copy of its first unit is still preserved. This article provides a preliminary analysis, including partial transcription, of the Bibliados feria seu tabula I (1566). The booklet concluded an – eventually failed – advertising campaign pursued to collect the funds for finishing and printing the poem. The poet intended to offer a meditative work that follows generally the structure of the breviary and consists largely of quotations from the Latin Bible compiled in several sections. Gregor himself contributed seven poems (hymni), discussed in this article, which cover biblical narrative from the creation of the world to the deluge, and a parenetical elegy. |
