Document Details : Title: Die neulateinische Melusine des Simon Lemnius Author(s): SCHLIP, Clemens Journal: Humanistica Lovaniensia Volume: 73 Date: 2024 Pages: 309-329 DOI: 10.2143/HLO.73.0.3294200 Abstract : The article treats a passage from an elegy by the Grisons poet Simon Lemnius (1511-1550) in which he presents his puella Marulla telling the medieval legend of Melusina as a warning example against jealousy. While it claims that Lemnius’ knowledge of this legend is not attributable to a certain source, it shows in which ways his version differs from other, better known versions of this story, how he treats it to make it fit into the elegiac framework (especially by inserting references to ancient mythology) and how appropriate it is that he ascribes the knowledge of this legend to a female speaker. |
