Document Details : Title: Potting Traditions at the Early Bronze Age Site of Tell el-Far'ah North (West Bank) Author(s): SALA, Maura Journal: Revue Biblique Volume: 132 Issue: 1 Date: 2025 Pages: 92-123 DOI: 10.2143/RBI.132.1.3294185 Abstract : The pottery from the EB IB-EB II settlements at Tell el-Far‘ah North is currently the subject of a multi-analytical study, which combines the chrono-typological analysis with archaeometric and technological data. The study made it possible to outline the material and technological knowledge achieved by potters through the EB IB-II period. Petrographic, mineralogical and chemical analyses allowed us to characterise different petro-fabrics, to examine aspects of the production technology and, eventually, to recognise the presence of two different potting traditions at the site. Based on these data, the organisation and social context behind pottery production have been investigated, shedding light on the ceramic production and distribution in the early urban centres of the southern Levant. La poterie des établissements du Bronze ancien IB et II à Tell el-Far‘ah Nord fait actuellement l’objet d’une étude multi-analytique, qui intègre l’analyse chrono-typologique aux données archéométriques et technologiques. L’étude a permis de définir les connaissances matérielles et technologiques acquises par les potiers au cours de cette période. Des analyses pétrographiques, minéralogiques et chimiques ont permis de caractériser les différentes pâtes céramiques, d’examiner des aspects de la technologie de production et enfin de reconnaître la présence de deux traditions céramiques différentes sur le site. Sur la base de ces données, l’organisation et le contexte social derrière la production de poterie ont été étudiés, ce qui a permis de mieux comprendre la production et la distribution de la céramique dans les premiers centres urbains du Levant méridional. |
