Abstract :
This article offers the first critical edition of Augustine’s s. 265 on the Ascension of the Lord, a long anti-Donatist sermon where he preaches on Ac 1,1-11 and touches on the themes of unity of the church, the twofold bestowal of the Holy Spirit and the commandments to love God and one’s neighbour. The edition improves greatly on that of the Maurists by taking into consideration the Wolfenbüttel and campanienne collections and the Madrid BN 194 homiliary. The introduction focuses, after a discussion of the difficulties in dating the sermon, on the stemmatical relations of the relevant manuscripts and on the indirect tradition, represented by Eugippius, Bede, Florus of Lyon and the Fleury homiliary. Two appendices provide preliminary critical editions of indirect witnesses Eugippius and Florus of Lyon.
