Jahrhunderts für die Mediävistik in mancher Hinsicht Relevanz. In diesem Artikel wird herausgearbeitet, wie die Ausrichtung des Klosters auf Rom Ausdruck der Treue zur karolingischen Reichsreform ist, weswegen sich für den Chronisten die Übernahme monastischer Reformen erübrigte. So hatte die römische Stadtliturgie Modellcharakter, dem Papst kam aber (noch) keine herausgehobene geistliche oder moralische Autorität zu. Although the Casus Sancti Galli are a local chronicle, they are relevant for medieval studies in many respects because of their literary quality and the author’s integration into the imperial system of the 11th century. This article explains how the monastery’s orientation towards Rome is an expression of loyalty to the Carolingian imperial reform, which is why for the chronicler the monastery did not have to adopt reforms. Thus, the Roman liturgy had a model character, but the Pope was not (yet) accorded any outstanding spiritual or moral authority. |
