Dopo una breve introduzione sullo stato con cui Roma si affaccia al X secolo, seguendo un ordine cronologico saranno illustrate le committenze papali, quelle della nascente nobiltà romana e quelle di ambito monastico. L’ultima parte del testo dedicherà alcuni cenni all’edilizia residenziale e fortificata. This essay attempts to provide an overview of tenth-century monumental Rome, by examining a number of building projects, both religious and residential, with a particular focus on those documented in written sources. After a brief introduction on the state of monumental heritage in Rome at the beginning of the tenth century, the essay focuses on some building projects commissioned by the Pope, the emerging Roman nobility, and the monastic milieu. The contribution concludes with notes on residential and fortified buildings. |
