Two accused authors, Voltaire and Marmontel, already had the reputation of being free-thinkers. The third was a Polish Piarist, Stanislaw Konarski, respected for his ecclesiastical activities. The article describes the context of the denunciations and the procedures implemented in Rome in view of the inclusion of the books in the index of prohibited books. |
