Document Details : Title: The Syriac Hagiographic Sources on Jacob of Serugh Revisited Author(s): BIROL, Simon Journal: Le Muséon Volume: 137 Issue: 3-4 Date: 2024 Pages: 385-403 DOI: 10.2143/MUS.137.3.3293893 Abstract : The panegyrics on Jacob of Serugh have been almost completely neglected in academic discourse. One exception was made by Paul Krüger in the 1960s and 1970s. He argued that Jacob has changed his Christological position and became a Dyophysite at the end of his life. While this argument has been disproved, it will be argued that the panegyrics offer insights into how various Syriac authors of the 11th and 12th centuries perceived and understood Jacob’s relevance for them, their communities, and the whole Church. |
