Document Details : Title: Esprit subjectif et esprit objectif selon H.U. von Balthasar Author(s): BRITO, Emilio Journal: Ephemerides Theologicae Lovanienses Volume: 100 Issue: 3-4 Date: 2024 Pages: 645-664 DOI: 10.2143/ETL.100.3.3293829 Abstract : The way Balthasar evokes the subjective-objective polarity of the Holy Spirit has been influenced by Hegel. But Balthasar is convinced that the Hegelian contribution cannot be beneficial in the context of Christian theology without being profoundly transformed. According to Balthasar, it is correct to say that the Holy Spirit is subjective – as the reciprocal love between Father and Son – and also objective, as the fruit and witness of their love; but the Spirit is not absolute – neither in the immanent Trinity, nor at the level of the economy – in the Hegelian sense of a final totality obtained by negation of the negation. |
