Abstract :
This paper intends to show the extent to which a minute study of the numerous references to Sartre and Sartrian thought in Maldiney’s early writings may contribute to a better understanding of the formation of Maldiney’s philosophy. We examine how, for what purpose and according to what kind of interpretation, the young Maldiney tried to open up a fruitful dialogue with some aspects of Sartre’s ontology, reading Sartre from the perspective of his own metaphysical questions. His reading of Being and Nothingness offers a first sketch of this reception. The objective of this paper is to use a set of unpublished texts from 1946 to 1948, which have received little attention in the secondary literature, in order to explore the role that this reception played in Maldiney’s work and the place it occupied within his early philosophy.
