Document Details : Title: Ongenadig fileren van troost Author(s): VAN WELIJ, Carolien Journal: Tijdschrift voor Filosofie Volume: 86 Issue: 1 Date: 2024 Pages: 69-77 DOI: 10.2143/TVF.86.1.3293623 Abstract : Philosopher and writer Patricia de Martelaere offers no traditional consolation, as becomes evident in her essay 'Een verlangen naar ontroostbaarheid' ('A Desire for Inconsolability' [own translation]). Yet, her philosophical essays give me solace through their clarity, rigorous thinking and precise descriptions of complex ideas. De Martelaere’s style blends lightness with profound themes, often employing paradoxes to convey deeper insights, making her work both challenging and rewarding. De Martelaere’s comfort is not of the soothing kind but one that stimulates ‘philosophical scratching’: active thinking and reflection. |
