Document Details : Title: Bemerkungen zum Verhältnis des 1Clem zum Hebr Author(s): WITULSKI, Thomas Journal: Ephemerides Theologicae Lovanienses Volume: 100 Issue: 2 Date: 2024 Pages: 231-255 DOI: 10.2143/ETL.100.2.3293343 Abstract : The present study re-examines the question of the literary relationship between Hebrews and 1Clem. In doing so it follows two guiding principles: defining a set of clear criteria for proving literary dependence and adhering to it; a consistent application of the heuristic research principle of lex parsimoniae. On this basis the following hypothesis seems the most likely: the author of 1Clem was a student of the author of Hebrews, who had argued and formulated his writing in a manner influenced by his teacher and his teacher’s theological orientation. The linguistic and factual similarities between 1Clem and Heb could therefore not be interpreted as an indication of literary dependence, but as a result of the theological influence of the auctor ad Hebraeos on the author of 1Clem. |
