Notoriously difficult to interpret, the Untitled Text presents itself as a series of hymns addressed to a First Principle. One of the most intriguing aspects of the treatise is the large number of biblical citations found in the text. This paper proposes to examine these citations in detail. Considering that the number of biblical citations, or even allusions, found in the four Platonizing Sethian treatises of Nag Hammadi is quite low, if not completely absent, we will examine what impact the presence of biblical material in the Untitled Text can have on its traditional categorization. |
