In particular, his commentary on the Psalms, long considered by scholars to have been his first work, appears to postdate an early version in three books of the Sentences, which he produced and taught during his Parisian career. In turn, his commentaries on the Psalms and the Pauline Epistles are shown to predate later versions in four books of the Sentences, also attributable to Peter Lombard himself. These findings will require rethinking not only his career but also the origins and development of Early Scholasticism. |
