Document Details : Title: RS 11.[920][A+B]: étude épigraphique et onomastique Subtitle: Implications pour la datation des «Archives Ouest» de Ras Shamra - Ougarit Author(s): PARDEE, Dennis Journal: Orientalia Volume: 92 Issue: 2 Date: 2023 Pages: 230-285 DOI: 10.2143/ORI.92.2.3292618 Abstract : This study was carried out to establish the reading of the very fragmentary alphabetic cuneiform text RS 11.[920][A+B] and then to assess the onomastic data contained therein. A significant number of the personal names in this text align with names appearing in texts from the House of 'Urtēnu, a large archive datable to the final decades of the kingdom of Ugarit, and in texts from the West Archives of the palace. This alignment and the onomastic profile of several of the names suggest that some of the names mentioned in both bodies of texts designate the same persons, who were thus living during the final decades of the kingdom of Ugarit. Because RS 11.[920][A+B] was probably found with or near texts from the West Archives of the Palace of Ugarit, these identifications of persons indicate a similar date for the texts from the two archives. This close examination of a very fragmentary document has thus provided an additional set of arguments for the late dating of the West Archives. |
