Document Details : Title: Selected Lead Seals from an Unpublished Private Collection in Germany Author(s): MALATRAS, Christos Journal: Revue des Études Byzantines Volume: 81 Date: 2023 Pages: 297-323 DOI: 10.2143/REB.81.0.3292144 Abstract : This paper presents part of a still small, recently created and unpublished private collection, located in Germany. The collection was formed exclusively from pieces bought at the online market. In total 16 lead seals, previously unpublished and most of them without any known parallel or similar specimens, are presented here. They range chronologically between the 6th and the 11th centuries and are mostly associated with the state administration. Some of these seals can be precisely dated, because they were issued by known personalities, an aspect that can help scholars to better date other seals. Cet article présente une partie d’une collection privée encore limitée, récemment créée et inédite, située en Allemagne. La collection a été formée uniquement à partir de pièces achetées sur le marché en ligne. En tout, seize sceaux de plomb, jusqu’ici inédits et pour la plupart sans parallèle connu ou spécimen similaire, sont ici présentés. Ils couvrent une période qui va du 6e au 11e siècle et sont pour la plupart liés à l’administration de l’État. Certains de ces sceaux peuvent être situés chronologiquement avec précision, parce qu’ils ont été émis par des personnalités bien connues, ce qui pourra aider les spécialistes à mieux dater d’autres sceaux. |
