Document Details : Title: Thasos and the Bosporan Kingdom Author(s): GRAHAM, A.J. Journal: Ancient West & East Volume: 1 Issue: 1 Date: 2002 Pages: 87-101 DOI: 10.2143/AWE.1.1.3292044 Abstract : The suggestion is made that there may have been people from Thasos in the origins of the Spartocid dynasty. Arguments used are from onomastics and the historical circumstances of Thasos, Odrysian Thrace and the Bosporan Kingdom. It is shown how our understanding of the nature of the Bosporan Kingdom would be enhanced, if the suggestion is right. In an Appendix the new Bosporan inscription, SEG XLIII.515, which is of great historical importance, is re-edited with epigraphical and historical commentary. |
