Document Details : Title: Der Diskurs des Ethischen Subtitle: Über Levinas' Alteritätsdenken im Ausgang von einer Kierkegaardschen Ironie? Author(s): NGUYEN DUC, Viet Anh Journal: Tijdschrift voor Filosofie Volume: 85 Issue: 1 Date: 2023 Pages: 135-164 DOI: 10.2143/TVF.85.1.3292012 Abstract : The concept of ‘the ethical’ was established in the course of the broad reception of Levinas in the 1990s and has since been distinguished in many post-phenomenological discussions from application-based and normative ethics, including meta-ethics. However, since the term itself is used very intuitively in these discussions, what it aims at exactly remains unclear. This article seeks to resolve these conceptual ambiguities by clarifying the term more broadly. Starting with Kierkegaard’s ironic concept of ‘the ethical’, I will show that this discussion of ‘the ethical’ is a hermeneutical one that seeks to tap into the existential and ontological foundations of our ethical-being. In this reading, Levinas’ more central concept of ‘the ethical’ turns out to be a special interpretation of ‘the ethical’ from an alteritarian perspective. Through such a Kierkegaardian definition of ‘the ethical’, the article seeks to define the core features that characterize the discourse of ‘the ethical’, which, in addition to Kierkegaard and Levinas, include authors such as Wittgenstein, Heidegger, Adorno or Derrida. |
