Document Details : Title: A Goldsmith's Dedication Subtitle: New Evidence for the Cult of Asclepius at Trajanopolis Author(s): ZOURNATZI, Antigoni Journal: Ancient West & East Volume: 2 Issue: 2 Date: 2003 Pages: 325-347 DOI: 10.2143/AWE.2.2.3291956 Abstract : A recently discovered dedication to Asclepius and Hygieia supplies motivation for a re-examination of the early history of Trajanopolis in Aegean Thrace. Using archaeological, topographic, epigraphic and numismatic evidence as well as the testimony of native lore, the present paper argues for the prominence of the cult of Asclepius in Trajanopolis during the Roman period and for the existence of an important ancient healing centre at the site. |
