Document Details : Title: L'édition critique des Actes des Apôtres Subtitle: État des questions et perspectives Author(s): SIMONET, Jean-Louis Journal: Le Muséon Volume: 136 Issue: 1-2 Date: 2023 Pages: 135-183 DOI: 10.2143/MUS.136.1.3291859 Abstract : This critical review of the Münster Editio Critica Maior of the Acts of the Apostles (2017) starts with a detailed presentation of the contents of this extraordinary work in four volumes. The first two volumes are devoted to the edited text and its critical apparatus, the third one contains supplementary materials useful for a good understanding of the first two volumes, and the fourth one contains studies of special problems in the textual transmission of Acts, relating specially to the question of its «Western text». The second part of this review is devoted to a critical appraisal of the edition: gaps in the list of Greek and versional witnesses, (limited) corrections to be made in the critical apparatus, discussion of the strict selection criteria for versional and patristic witnesses included or not in the apparatus, with special attention to the Eastern versions and Fathers; comparison with the critical editions of Tischendorf and von Soden; comparison with our own unpublished ECM of Acts, in order to assess what can be expected in the future from existing variants which are not recorded yet in the Münster edition; and a discussion of the text of Acts in Irenaeus and its bearing on the question of the Western text, in which we share our personal position on this matter. We finally think that a wonderful job has been done in Münster, but also, that much still remains to be done to achieve a more complete Editio Critica Maior of the Acts of the Apostles. |
