Document Details : Title: Roman Favor and Etruscan Thuf(ltha) Subtitle: A Note on Propertius 4.2.34 Author(s): THOMSON DE GRUMMOND, Nancy Journal: Ancient West & East Volume: 4 Issue: 2 Date: 2005 Pages: 296-317 DOI: 10.2143/AWE.4.2.3291767 Abstract : This article defends a reading in Propertius 4.2.34 that seems to mention a god named Favor, known for a connection with catching birds. It is here argued that Roman Favor is equivalent to Etruscan Thuf(ltha), a divinity whose votive offerings often featured a connection with birds. Of special interest is a statue in the Vatican Museums that may represent the god as a male rustic figure involved in the act of fowling. |
